It turns out that I really like making BMS for the BMS project!
Even though there is a deadline, it's not stressful, and I find myself motivated to finish early.
I'm not trying to compete for anything, so I can just make whatever I want.

This year, I didn't have the time to compose a new song, so I converted a previously released song that I had always wanted to make into a BMS.
The song is "liberAge", a melodic techno song composed for Shooters' Festival 2022, a K-Shoot Mania event.
It was originally conceived as a song to create a KSM LASER chart to, so the keysounds aren't very detailed.
However, I've always wanted to create an LN-focued BMS chart for it. So I decided to do it now.

Unlike last year's BMS ("vexodes"), the charts this time are relatively normal.
The main focus is still on the 14K charts, but there are no crossovers this time.
However, there is some very intense LN gameplay, and I've kept scratch+button gameplay.
As usual, it's the kind of strange things that appeal to me as a rhythm game chart designer. A release from my usual job.
Isn't it strange that my relief from my full-time job of designing charts for rhythm games is to design charts for a different rhythm game?

It's a shame that Shooters' Festival is unable to continue. SFes2022 was the last one as of 2025.
It seems that user-made rhythm game culture has moved away from the creation of original songs.
Everyone is simply satisfied to take music from elsewhere and make charts for them, with varying levels of legality.
The BMS scene is the only one that's keeping the culture of making original songs alive, and I think it's important to support it.
Apparently many people don't make original music for user-made rhythm games, because they don't think they would be good at it.
How can you say that if you haven't tried? It doesn't matter if you're good or bad. As long as you try, that's what counts.
Let's make sure that BMS never dies!

...

The title of the song, "liberAge", is a mashup of the words "liberation" and "age".
- It is the Age of Liberation. -
Throughout history, many kinds of people were oppressed, simply because they were different than "normal".
[Set me free... I'm on my knees...]
In recent decades, we have seen rapid acceleration of human rights, and many people have been liberated.
However, the work is not done. Much of society is still intolerant to "different" people, and discrimination is still common.
In order to be free, we need to be accepting. If you accept people for who they truly are, then they can be free.
[Yeah I'm freefalling, can you hear?]
If the oppressors cannot change to become accepting, then it is the oppressed who must rise to challenge them.
There is still more progress to be made. Many people all over the world are still unable to live as their true selves.
The age is not finished yet.
- It is the Age of Liberation. -

It's OK to make difference/ charts! I love to see what other people make with my music.
Maybe you can make an actual normal chart, and not something strange like I always do, lol.
The empty BMS file [_liberage_empty.bms] is located in the subfolder [_empty].

At this point, I think it may be safe to say that I will be appearing in BMS once every year from now on.
It's also probably safe to say that I've retired from BOF. I guess I really like BMS!
See you next year!
